In 1981, amidst fears of the introduction of pastel scatter cushions at rehearsals, we gained a female singer. There are various explanations for how Nicky was asked to join Omicron, but I like the one where Iain stops to ask her whilst she mends a puncture on her bike, on the way home from college and then leaves her to fix it on her own. It's completeley untrue, but I like that version.
Nicky turned out to be a good singer and once we worked out that we couldn't keep doing songs that suited a male heavy metal specialist, her smooth style started to shape our sets and her voice pleased the audiences. "Right, I've complemented you now Nicky, so just remember that without the fantastic band behind you, you'd be NOTHING!!!!"
